Une agréable surprise au centre de Bruxelles. C’est une ( petite ) expo dans le cadre du Summer Of Photography dont le thème est le diversité des genres et l’émancipation. Pas de place pour de la belle esthétique donc, mais un discours féministe et engagé. On pourrait craindre le pire, mais ces artistes de ‘ pays de l’Est’ on abordé le thème avec beaucoup de subtilité. Pour ceux qui ont vu Underground , il y a cet humour indéfinissable tellement propre à cette région qui en a vu d’autres….

Een aangename verassing hartje Brussel. De (kleine) tentoonstelling kadert in het thema van de Summer Of Photography ‘ genderdiversiteit en emancipatie ‘; Geëngageerde feministische kunst dus en niet echt de plaats voor ‘ mooie plaatjes’. Toch maken deze kunstenaars uit het vorige oostblok er een boeiend verhaal van , vol nuances en subtiliteit. Ik was vooral onder de indruk van Dita Pepe (1973 – Tsjechië), maar alle hebben de ondefinieerbare sfeer en humor eigen aan die regio die ongeveer alles heeft meegemaakt…( denk aan ‘Underground ‘ voor wie deze film van 1995 gezien heeft)

De val van de Berlijnse Muur in november 1989 symboliseert het einde van de scheuring tussen Oost- en West-Europa. Sindsdien ondergingen de Oost-Europese landen sterke constitutionele, politieke en socioeconomische veranderingen. Tijdens die veranderingen werd weinig rekening gehouden met de sociale positie van de vrouw of de deelname van vrouwen aan die veranderingen. Concepten als feminisme, emancipatie en gelijkheid hadden een heel andere invulling tijdens het communisme. Tot voor kort was het moeilijk om iets terug te vinden over de relatie tussen fotografie en feminisme in Oost-Europa. In samenwerking met ambassades en culturele instellingen toont De Markten de projecten van tien Oost-Europese kunstenaars die over het genderthema werken.
FR La chute du Mur de Berlin en novembre 1989 a symbolisé la fin de la scission entre le bloc de l’Est et l’Europe occidentale. Depuis lors, différents pays d’Europe de l’Est ont entrepris des modifications constitutionnelles, politiques et socioéconomiques fondamentales. Ces transformations ont peu tenu compte de la place des femmes dans la société ou de leur participation au changement. Des concepts
comme le féminisme, l’émancipation ou l’égalité avaient en effet un tout autre sens sous le communisme… De Markten présente 10 projets d’artistes originaires d’Europe de l’Est qui traitent de la problématique des genres.
EN The fall of the Berlin Wall in November 1989 symbolised the end of the rupture between Eastern and Western Europe. Since then, the countries of Eastern Europe have been through major constitutional, political, and socio-economic changes. During those changes, little attention was paid to women’s position in society or to their participation in the changes. Concepts such as feminism, liberation, and equality
had a quite different interpretation under communism. Until recently, it was difficult to discover anything about the relationship between photography and feminism in Eastern Europe. In cooperation with a number of embassies and cultural institutions, De Markten presents projects by ten Eastern European artists who work on the theme of gender.
